Finding Dimes

I read somewhere that God will give you little reminders of his presence, if you ask. Recognizing those reminders is not always easy. But, when you see them, they are like little hugs from God. Little hugs that get you through the day like a baby's giggle, a velcro hug from a 6 year old, or a "you're cool" from a teenager.

Last year, on an ordinary day, I found a dime on the kitchen counter. Later that day, I found a dime on the floor at the gym while stretching at the end of my workout. On the drive home, I found a dime on the floor of my van. It was after the third dime that I realized this was no coincidence. I began to say a quick prayer and a "thank you" for every dime that dime fell into my path after that day.

I have been finding dimes everywhere for the past year. Some of them are out in the open, but others are more hidden, as if they are waiting for me to find them.

My favorite and most important dime was a week into my new job. I realized after day 2 that I had made a big mistake in taking this job. I feared that I would lose my connection with what is truly important in life. It took me an hour every day to get out of bed - an hour that I spent praying for the strength and desire to go to that office where I was afraid I was losing a part of myself. One morning, that prayer was a request to let me know that He is with me at work. While getting my morning tea, I noticed a sole dime sitting on a table in the lunchroom.

Last week, after a small leak in our storage room, I had to move the deep freeze to clean up the water. I wasn't overly upset about the leak - it could have been worse - but the dime I found under the small puddle behind the deep freeze was worth the effort of the clean up!

The next time you find a dime in your coat pocket, in the bottom of the washing machine, or even in the bathroom garbage can (I have found dimes in all of those places), say a prayer of thanksgiving for the wonderful hug you just received from God.

What other dimes do you have in your life?

I started finding dimes back in the spring of this year. The first one was on the ground by my car after school. The next day I found one by my car at home. The next day, I was at a redbox machine at CVS getting a movie, decided I wanted some chocolate so I went inside. Nothing on the wall of candy was looking good to me. Suddenly I was craving a Big Reses Cup so I walked over to the counter, reached down to get the Reses and right on top was a dime. Since then a dime has fallen out of my 3-hole punch...no paper dots...just a dime. I have story after story of finding dimes in random places. There have been quite a few times I've told others about finding dimes and within 24 hours, they find a dime in a random spot. All along I have felt that God was just having a good time playing with His child. It has always brought a smile to my face and encouragement to my heart. He's a big God, but He keeps an eye on even the little things!

    1. Thank you for sharing your story! People also tell me me that they find dimes within 24 hours after I tell them my story. I'm not sure what the significance of the dime is, but there is no doubt this is truly a gift from God. I still see dimes most days, but more often when I'm in need of that encouragement from God. Your response was like a dime to me :)

      Thank you!

Stressed about my daughter being away from home on her birthday. Was at work found in the center of a table a dime all by itself. The year was my daughter's birthyear. It made me smile and gave me comfort. Yes God is great:)

All of these dimes stories are so precious and encouraging. Such blessings.

    1. Thank you for sharing! I'm sorry to hear about your Mom and I think you are right about the dimes being hugs from your parents. They are with God now and God is with all of us. So they are still with you, just not in physical form.

Thank you for the nudge to keep posting. I have many thoughts that come to me, but I don't always take the time to post them.

  4. I believe that the dimes are God's way of reminding me that He is always there. When I find dimes in odd places, it is like God is saying He is everywhere. If you are finding dimes during a difficult time in your life, could it be God letting you know that you are not alone? When you find a dime, say a prayer and remember that no matter how difficult things seem, you are never alone.

    Susan Downey,

I would like to share my dime finding experiences. Over the last two weeks I have found dimes and when I fond them they were on the route I was walking and close together. Within a block or so. One set I saw on the carpet at the checkout a Shopper's. I am not sure what this means but I did lose an Uncle recently and I decided to put in my resignation for my job because we are building a house and I needed more time. I am sure you are feeling an and... I also have had trouble with management and the lead hand. I don't have much patience for people yelling at me and trying to make themselves look self important when they do it and I will stand up for myself and for others when I know what is being said is wrong and totally out of context. I prayed about what to do with the conflicts at work and I decided to forgive them and pray for God to give them peace. I think maybe these dime pairs are God's way of assuring me I am on the right path because the morning I put in my notice. I was at peace and have remained in that state pretty much since then. It was this last Tuesday. My friend says she thinks it is a visit from family that has passed on. Oh, I also found a nickel next to a tire yesterday. The bit of sunlight highlighted as I waiting for another couple to precede me into the coffee shop.

    1. Susan...Thank you for sharing your story. I believe the dimes really are God's way of reminding us that he's there. It's funny you mentioned the nickel though. I was on a retreat last week-end when I found a nickel. I almost expected to find another one as the second half of the dime. Maybe you got the other half :)

It's great that you are praying for others to receive some peace. I will pray the same for you. Keep offering that quick prayer of thanks when you find dimes because God is there and He will help you through this time of change.
